Hacktoberfest is a month-long celebration of open source software. Throughout October, Open Source Chicago will join forces with many other tech communities in Chicago and around the world to celebrate and contribute to open source software.
They have two goals in this. First, they will support newcomers and help them navigate the open source world to make their first contribution. Our more experienced participants will help people find issues and become good collaborators. Second, they will all aim to make four contributions by the end of October. Merged pull requests are the standard unit of contribution, but we also strongly encourage contributing code review.
The kickoff event will start with a big group call where we will go over how to contribute code to a Github repository and introduce the mentors. Then we will move over to our Mozilla Hubs virtual room in order to mingle, and form some working groups.
They will have weekly check-in meetups throughout October and our Keybase team chat will be the place to post wins and get help.
